Nepal Under-16 basketball team off to Dhaka

KATHMANDU, JUL 01 -
National Basketball Under-16 Team left for the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Sunday to participate in the qualifying round of the Asian Games. The qualifiers take place from July 3-6.
Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Yubraj Lama bade farewell to 16-member squad including 12 players. The team which is captained by Keshang Thakuri consists of his deputy Saugat Baniya, Sonam Lama, Anish Magar, Shohart Shah, Denju Gurung, Suraj Lama, Sandesh Tamang, Sujan Senchuri, Prayash Shrestha, Ajaya Kunwar and Sudip Acharya. Apart from Thakuri, Baniya, Magar and Kunwar, who had already featured in Nepal U-14 National Team in Japan, rest will be making their debut from the national side.
The team will play with India, Maldives and hosts Bangladesh with the winners booking their place in the Asian Games to be held in September 2013, informed team coach Biku Maharjan. “We will first fight for the No. 1 spot and if not we will at least target to win two games against Bangladesh and the Maldives”.
